The arithmetic that decides it

A tower or pedestal fan on medium draws roughly 45W. Run it for the eight hours you are actually asleep and the fan consumes 360Wh of AC energy. Feeding an inverter costs something, so assume 85% conversion and the pack gives up about 424Wh to deliver it.

Solar changes the maths again

A fan is a load you want running for days, not hours, and this is the only unit in the guide that publishes a maximum solar input at all: 220W. Five usable sun-hours against that ceiling is roughly 1,100Wh of input. A 45W fan running continuously for a full 24 hours consumes 1,080Wh of AC, or about 1,270Wh from the pack.

So on a genuinely good day, panels at the stated maximum come close to keeping a fan running indefinitely, and comfortably cover an eight-hour night with a large margin. That is a different proposition from a unit you have to carry back to an outlet.

What it costs you

Weight. At 18.2 lb it is not a one-hand item, and the 42.2 watt-hours per pound it achieves is the best ratio here precisely because you are carrying more of it. If the unit lives on a porch, in a van or under a market table, that never matters. If it has to walk to a tent pitch, it does.

The other thing to be honest about is the inverter. 800W is sized for a kettle or a drill. A fan asks for a twentieth of that. You are not buying inverter capacity here, you are buying watt-hours, and it is worth knowing which half of the specification sheet you are actually paying attention to.

Who should look elsewhere

Why switchover matters for a fan and not for a light

Most guides treat UPS switchover as a computer specification. For a fan it does one useful thing: it means nobody has to get up. A cut at two in the morning does not wake the room, does not need somebody to find the unit in the dark, and does not leave a bedroom warming for twenty minutes before anyone notices. What the 600W rating is actually for

Small power stations in this size class are usually rated 300W. This one is rated 600W continuous, which is the reason it earns a place next to units with twice the battery. Four 45W fans is 180W, well inside the rating, so the inverter will not be what stops you running several at once. BLUETTI does not publish an AC outlet count for this unit, so assume a power strip if you want more than one fan on it, and note that 245Wh of usable AC divided by four 45W fans is about 1.4 hours.

Ignore the 1500W Power Lifting figure. That mode gets there by dropping output voltage so current stays in range. It suits a resistive load, where less voltage just means less heat. A fan is a motor, and a motor needs the voltage to make torque. For your fan, the number is 600W.

Recharging between cuts

Outages in hot weather often come in bursts. Power returns for half an hour, drops again, returns for an hour. A unit that needs three hours to refill cannot use those windows. If the unit never leaves a porch, the difference is academic. If it goes into a pack alongside a tent and three days of food, it is the reason to pick this one.

The case measures 9.1 x 5.2 x 7.8 in, which is small enough to sit in a pannier, a crate or a footwell rather than taking a seat of its own.

Skip the inverter and the numbers change

Most camping fans are not AC appliances. They run on USB or on 12V, and this unit has a 100W USB-C port and a 120W car port to feed them directly. Doing that avoids the AC inverter altogether, which is where the conversion loss in every runtime figure on this page comes from.

Run an 8W USB fan from AC and 292Wh gives about 31 hours at the 85% assumption we use throughout. Feed the same fan from USB-C and you keep more of that. Either way it is three or four full nights from one charge, which is a genuinely different experience from watching a box fan drain it in an evening.

The ceiling, stated honestly

300W continuous is the rating. A 20-inch box fan on medium at 60W is well inside it, but the battery is the limit rather than the inverter: about 248Wh of AC divided by 60W is 4.1 hours. That is an evening, not a night.

It also means the trip’s whole electrical budget is this box. A 1,000W kettle does not run. A hair dryer does not run. If the fan is the only load, that is fine. If it is not, you are in the wrong unit.

Where the cycle rating hides something

Over 4,000 cycles sounds like the best figure here until you read the endpoint. Jackery rates to 70% of original capacity, where the RIVER 2 Pro’s 3,000-cycle rating is quoted to 80%. Taken to that limit the Jackery pack holds about 204Wh, against the 234Wh it would hold if the same rating had been quoted at 80%.

For fan duty this is close to irrelevant, because a night of a small fan is a fraction of one cycle and nobody reaches 4,000 of them. It matters more if you use the same unit hard for other things year round.

Who should choose differently

What one fan looks like on it

Ignore the inverter rating

What to look for before you buy

Start with your fan’s wattage, not the power station’s

Everything on this page follows from one number, and it is printed on your fan rather than the battery. Three figures cover most of what people actually own:

  • A rechargeable or USB camp fan: around 8W
  • A tower or pedestal fan on medium: around 45W
  • A 20-inch box fan on medium: around 60W

Treat those as planning assumptions rather than measurements. The figure on a fan’s label is usually the high-speed draw, so one notch down often saves a third of it. That single setting change moves every runtime below by hours.

The formula, and what it gives for these four

Rated watt-hours are not delivered watt-hours. Everything running through an AC outlet passes through the inverter, and that conversion costs something. We assume 85% throughout, which is a reasonable planning figure rather than a manufacturer claim, and we state it so you can adjust it.

Usable AC = rated capacity x 0.85. Hours = usable AC / fan watts.

Read the middle column as the one that matters. An eight-hour night on a 45W fan means 360Wh delivered, or roughly 424Wh taken from the pack. Two of these units clear that and two do not, and no feature list changes it.

A fan is a constant load, which makes this easier than it looks

Most sizing advice in this category is written for refrigerators, where a compressor runs in bursts and you have to guess at a duty cycle. Fans do not do that. Set a speed and the draw stays there until you change it.

So the arithmetic above is unusually trustworthy. There is no averaging, no compressor surge to allow for, and no seasonal variable beyond you reaching for a higher speed on a hotter night. The only two things that move the answer are the speed setting and the conversion loss, and both are visible in the table.

Watt-hours per pound, because most of these get carried

Capacity per pound is the honest way to compare units that will be moved:

In other words the first step up is efficient and the second is not. The R1500 LITE still earns its place, but on outlet count rather than energy density.

AC outlet or 12V car port

If your fan runs on 12V or USB, do not put it through the inverter. The pack stores DC, the inverter turns it into AC, and a DC fan’s own adapter turns it straight back into DC. Every one of those steps loses a little.

Feed it from a car port or a USB-C outlet instead and you skip the round trip. The Explorer 300 offers a 120W car port and a 100W USB-C outlet, and the R1500 LITE has a 120W car outlet plus two 100W USB-C ports. For an 8W tent fan this is the difference between a long weekend and most of a week.

Two specifications you can mostly ignore

Inverter wattage. The category advertises it hardest and it matters least here. A 60W box fan is under 4% of the R1500 LITE’s 1600W continuous rating. The one place it counts is the number of fans: the Elite 30 V2’s 600W continuous is double the usual small-unit rating, so the inverter is not what stops you adding a second or third fan.
