Privacy policy

The short version: Power Bencher has no accounts, no newsletter, no comment section and no contact form, so there is nothing here for you to fill in and no way for us to know who you are. This page explains the parts that are less obvious, including what Amazon can see.
What we collect directly
Nothing you type, because there is nothing to type into: no form, no sign-up and no account. We never ask you to identify yourself to read a page. We do measure page views and outbound clicks, which is described under Analytics below.
What our host records
This site is served by Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel's servers log requests as they serve them, which includes your IP address, the page requested, your browser's user agent string and a timestamp. Those logs exist so the site can be operated and defended against abuse. We do not use them to build a profile of you, and we do not combine them with anything else.
Analytics
This site uses Google Analytics 4 to measure which pages are read and which outbound links are clicked. That measurement is what tells us which comparisons are worth keeping up to date. The events we send record the page, the product and the position of the button clicked. They do not include your name, your email address or anything else that identifies you personally, because we never have those in the first place.
Cookies
Google Analytics sets its own cookies in your browser, typically named
_ga and _ga_S935PL8HYM. They hold a randomly
generated identifier so that repeat visits from the same browser are counted as one
visitor rather than several. They do not contain your name or email address, and we set
no cookies of our own beyond these.
Amazon sets its own cookies once you follow a link to their site, which is covered below.
Affiliate links and Amazon
We are a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. When you click a "Check price" button you leave this site for Amazon, and Amazon records the click against our associate tag so that any purchase you make is attributed to us. That process is Amazon's, it happens under Amazon's own privacy notice , and it is where their cookies come from.
What we receive back from Amazon is a commission report: totals of items ordered and fees earned. It does not tell us who you are, what else you bought, or which reader made any particular purchase.
Product images load from Amazon
This is worth stating plainly because it happens without you clicking anything. Product photographs on this site are served directly from Amazon's image servers rather than copied onto ours, which is the arrangement Amazon's terms require. The practical consequence is that when a page with product photographs loads, your browser requests those images from Amazon, and Amazon's servers therefore see your IP address and user agent as part of serving them.
The site sends a
strict-origin-when-cross-origin referrer policy, so those requests tell Amazon
which site the image was requested from but not which specific page you were reading.
Fonts and other third parties
Our fonts are served from this domain, not from Google Fonts or any other font service, so reading a page makes no request to a third party other than the Amazon image servers described above. There are no embedded videos, no social widgets, no chat bubbles and no advertising networks.
Children
This site is written for adults buying equipment. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age.
Your rights
Rights under the GDPR, the UK GDPR and the CCPA include access to your personal data, correction of it, and deletion of it. We hold no personal data about you, so in practice there is nothing for us to hand over or erase. A request about the server logs described above is best directed at Vercel, and a request about your Amazon activity at Amazon, since those are the parties that actually hold that data.

Changes to this policy
If the site starts collecting something, this page will say so before it does, and the date at the top will change.
