About Power Bencher

Power Bencher compares portable power stations for home backup, camping and off-grid use. We exist because most coverage in this category repeats manufacturer runtime charts without explaining what they assume, and ranks products one to ten without saying who each one is for.

What we do differently

• We show the arithmetic. Runtime figures on our pages are calculated from rated capacity and realistic appliance duty cycles, and we say when a manufacturer figure looks optimistic.
• We label our evidence. Every recommendation states whether it came from hands-on use or from documentation and owner reports, and lists what the evaluation does not cover.
• We give every product a specific job. If a unit does not clearly suit some group of readers better than the alternatives, it does not go in the guide.
• We name real drawbacks. Every review has at least one disadvantage significant enough to change a decision.

How we pay for this

Where our specifications come from

Product specifications come from manufacturer documentation and are re-verified on a schedule, with the check date shown on our product pages. Where a manufacturer figure carries a condition that listings usually omit, such as a surge mode that only works with resistive loads, we say so.
