Every other unit on this shortlist lands within about 150Wh of a kilowatt-hour. This one holds twice that, and for a console the difference is not subtle.

What twice the capacity actually returns

A PS5 running something demanding sits near 200W and stays there. There is no duty cycle to discount, no compressor cycling off, no idle stretch that a manufacturer runtime chart can quietly average into the figure. The load is flat, which makes the arithmetic unusually clean.

Take 85% off the rated 2042Wh for inverter conversion and roughly 1736Wh reaches the console. That is:

  • About 8.7 hours with the console alone
  • About 5.8 hours with the console and a 55-inch LED TV, assuming the TV pulls around 100W

The three roughly 1kWh units in this guide land between 3.0 and 3.3 hours on the same combined assumption. A typical three-hour evening session drains them almost exactly. This one absorbs it and has more than half its charge left.

The weight figure is misleading on its own

39.5 lb reads badly next to the 23.8 lb Explorer 1000 v2. Divide by capacity and the picture inverts: 51.7 watt-hours per pound here against 45.0 on the lighter unit and about 32 on both the BLUETTI AC180 and the ALLPOWERS R1500 LITE.

Per hour of play, this is the most weight-efficient unit in the guide. It is simply not weight you want to pick up often.

Refill rate is better than the headline suggests

66 minutes to 80% sounds unremarkable against the AC180’s 45 minutes. But 80% of 2042Wh is 1634Wh, and moving that in 66 minutes implies an average input around 1485W, the fastest of the four.

In practical terms, half an hour on the wall buys back roughly 630Wh at the outlet, which is about two hours of console-and-TV play. Real charging tapers as the pack fills, so treat that as a ceiling rather than a promise.

Where it loses

The port panel is the honest weak point. One USB-C PD port covers one controller. A second controller goes on an AC outlet through its own brick, which is workable but wasteful on a unit this capable.

The 20ms switchover is the other reservation. It is longer than the 16.67ms of a single 60Hz cycle, so if the plan is to leave the unit permanently inline as the console’s uninterruptible supply, the 15ms ALLPOWERS is specified tighter.

Buy this for hours. Buy something else for portability or for a faster handover.

Losing mains power mid-game is not usually a hardware problem. It is a save problem, and occasionally a database problem, because the console never gets to close its files.

Why 15ms is the number that matters here

Mains power in the US alternates at 60Hz, so one complete cycle takes 16.67 milliseconds. Any switchover figure below that means the load sees less than a single missing cycle, which is the sort of gap a switch-mode power supply’s internal capacitance is built to absorb.

This unit is specified at 15ms. The Jackery Explorer 2000 v2 is specified at 20ms, the BLUETTI AC180 at under 20ms, and the Explorer 1000 v2 publishes no figure at all. That makes this the only unit on the shortlist whose stated handover sits inside a full cycle.

It is a specification, not a measurement, and we have not put a console behind it. But if the reason you are shopping is that your street browns out and the system keeps rebuilding its database afterwards, this is the figure to shop on.

Four outlets is not a trivial detail

A console setup is rarely a console. It is a console, a display, a router or mesh node, often a soundbar, and two controllers that want charging between rounds.

Four AC outlets and two 100W USB-C ports covers all of it directly. The Explorer 2000 v2 has three AC outlets and one USB-C. The difference is whether the second controller charges properly or waits its turn.

What it does not hold

1056Wh at an 85% conversion assumption is roughly 898Wh at the outlet. Against a 200W console that is about 4.5 hours. Add a 55-inch LED TV at around 100W and it falls to about 3.0 hours.

That covers an evening. It does not cover a weekend afternoon that turns into an evening, and at 1056Wh it is the smallest pack in the guide, holding 96Wh less than the AC180 while weighing only 2.3 lb less.

The weight arithmetic is the sharpest criticism. 1056Wh across 33 lb is 32.0 watt-hours per pound. The Explorer 1000 v2 stores essentially the same energy in 23.8 lb, and the Explorer 2000 v2 stores nearly twice as much for only 6.5 lb more.

Who should skip it

Anyone whose main problem is runtime rather than continuity. If the grid is stable and you just want long untethered sessions, capacity per pound is a better thing to buy than a tighter switchover figure you will rarely call on.

Runtime is the specification everyone shops on, and for a single long session it is the right one. For a console that gets used twice in a day it is the wrong one, because the question stops being how long the charge lasts and becomes how quickly it comes back.

Turning the recharge claim into play time

80% of 1152Wh is 922Wh. Moving that in 45 minutes implies an average input rate around 1229W.

Half an hour on the wall at that rate puts roughly 615Wh into the pack. Take 85% off for inverter conversion on the way back out and that is about 522Wh at the outlet, or roughly one hour and 45 minutes of console-and-TV play bought back from a half-hour break.

The same half hour on the Explorer 1000 v2, which needs 1.7 hours for a full charge, returns closer to 53 minutes of play. That is the practical gap.

Charging rates taper as a pack fills, so these figures describe the early part of a charge and should be read as a ceiling.

What it holds

1152Wh is the largest of the three roughly one-kilowatt-hour units here. At an 85% conversion assumption about 979Wh reaches the console, which is:

Ignore the Power Lifting figure

BLUETTI quotes 2700W alongside the 1800W continuous rating. Power Lifting reaches that number by lowering output voltage so current stays inside limits, which suits a resistive load such as a heating element and does nothing useful for anything else.

For a console it is doubly irrelevant, because a 200W draw uses about 11% of the 1800W continuous rating in the first place. No unit in this guide is anywhere near its inverter limit with a gaming setup on it.

The ceiling problem

The specification records this unit as not expandable. Every other consideration here is a matter of degree; this one is a hard stop. If a second console, a PC or a longer outage plan pushes you past 1152Wh, there is no expansion battery to add and the answer is a different unit.

Weight is only half the portability question

A portable display or a laptop screen instead of a full TV pushes that back towards the console-only figure, which is worth knowing if the plan is gaming in a tent or a spare room rather than a living room.

The gap in the specification

There is no published UPS switchover time for this unit in the specification we work from. That is not the same as saying it switches slowly. It means there is no number to hold anyone to.

For a portable use case that is mostly irrelevant, because you are not plugged into mains anyway. If your actual problem is that the power in your street drops during matches, the ALLPOWERS R1500 LITE publishes 15ms and the Explorer 2000 v2 publishes 20ms, and one of those is the unit to buy instead.

The refill penalty

What to look for before you buy

A console is the most honest load in this category

Most power station guides have to hedge, because most appliances cycle. A fridge compressor runs, stops, runs again, and any runtime figure depends on a duty cycle nobody can pin down.

A games console does not do that. Load a demanding title and the draw settles near 200W and stays there for as long as you play. There is no averaging, no duty cycle, no compressor to discount. That makes this one of the few cases where capacity divided by load actually predicts what happens.

Throughout this guide we assume a sustained 200W console draw, a 55-inch LED TV at roughly 100W when one is in use, and 85% of rated capacity reaching the outlet after inverter conversion. All three are stated assumptions, not measurements.

Start with watt-hours, not watts

The specification that decides this purchase is capacity. The specification most guides put first is inverter wattage, and for a console it is close to irrelevant.

Run the numbers. A console and a TV together pull about 300W. Against the four inverter ratings here, that is:

  • 300W of 2200W on the Explorer 2000 v2, about 14%
  • 300W of 1800W on the AC180, about 17%
  • 300W of 1600W on the R1500 LITE, about 19%

The pattern is blunt. Three of these units are the same unit as far as a console is concerned, separated by about twenty minutes of play. The fourth holds twice as much.

If you play in three-hour evening blocks with a TV on, the one-kilowatt-hour class finishes exactly as you do, with nothing spare. That is a narrower margin than most people expect from a battery that size.

Weight per hour, not weight

Raw weight ranks these units 23.8, 33, 35.3 and 39.5 lb. Watt-hours per pound ranks them differently, and more usefully:

The last factor is how much play a short charge buys back. Convert each recharge claim into an average input rate, then back into play time at 300W:

Charging tapers as a pack fills, so treat these as the best case for the early part of a charge rather than a guarantee.

One thing you can stop worrying about is pack life. At three sessions a week drawing around 900Wh each, the three one-kilowatt-hour units see roughly 120 to 135 equivalent full cycles a year. Against their ratings of 3,500 and 4,000 cycles, that is more than two decades. The Explorer 2000 v2 publishes no cycle rating at all, though at twice the capacity it turns over about half as many cycles for the same amount of play.
